Well, I know that at least 3 of us on here have read/are reading this series of books and that another member is considering reading them ... Please discuss it. But don't post spoilers without the hex code else I will die. This series sits right at the top alongside Harry Potter, for me.

Well, my mum is going to buy 'The Eye of the World' for me soon, since she's forcing me to apply for a saturday job at Tesco. >_<;;

She is? Why? And why Tesco, of all places? And ... don't you have to be over 16 for a job? Well, I hope you have fun reading the book. I don't know if I could go back to it, really. The lead male characters are much more bearable in that book but the female characters (my favourite) are not developed enough at that point. Mind you ... there is one scene that is the sweetest scene ever ...

Erm ... Tesco is close. Easy job and I'm only going for about 8 hours every Saturday. And yes, I do have to be 16, but there's a new store opening and it won't be opened until the end of the year and i'm 16 near the end of the year.
Not developed? in what way?

8 hours . What I mean is that the characters develop more and more throughout the series. I prefer the three main male characters before they develop as two of them really annoy me but if I were to go back and read the female characters' plotlines again, it would infuriate me because they don't do the amazing things that they are able to do later on. Besides, towards the beginning of the series, there is more of a focus on the male characters anyway.

And to save this post from blatant off topicness I shall now relate back to the actual topic. =P Haven't read anythong about WoT and hardly know anything so...

Book eight, is that Path of Daggers?
I agree with the points you made, about the early books, Shnophie. It really isn't until later on that many of the female characters come into focus. And, the early books, about the first three or so, mainly focus on Rand, Matrim, and Perrin. I do say, however, that it is also in the latter books that Matrim and Perrin really become memorable characters. Especially Perrin.
Rami, I agree with Shnophie, also, when she declared that YOU SHOULD read these books. At least give Book One a read.

I agree with Shnopie, and Rand, it's an awesome series... I read some of the first at the beach, and bought the second. I've already read the... fourth, or... part of it at least. It was weird, coming into the series without having read anything before it.
I can say however... I'm quite scared of the female characters while they develop... they just strike me as... mean. I could bear Nynaeve at first, but now they're all even worse than she was to begin with, it seems. They're more interesting though, I'll admit.
I can understand why Shnopie might not like the male characters later, but I like them. XD Everyone has a flaw...
(Matrim has a cool story, as well as Perrin in the fourth, from what I've found.)

I've started reading The Eye of the World today and I'm up to chapter 5 now. It's really good! I'd still be reading, but I got a bit uncomfortable sitting in the same place for ages. Hmm, interesting too. None of the older men in the village can see the man in dark cloaks.

Yep, the eighth book is The Path of Daggers. i'm on page 70, chapter 2, currently. Err, highlight the following paragraph to read it, if you've already read the book. It's not that important but others might not want it spoilt. Chapter 1 was from Aviendha's POV as they left the Tarasin Palace and chapter 2 is from Elayne's POV and they've just discovered that Aviendha picked apart a thread, rather than let it dissipate.
OH!!! How unbelievable happy was I when Lan and Nynaeve were reunited? And then they finally got married!! *cries tears of happiness* Nynaeve makes me feel so wonderfully alive. I'm so happy for her ^^.
Grah, Rand pissed me off at the end of book 7 but I won't go into that ...
Verius - how do the female characters strike you as mean? They're not mean. I love how after a few books, you get to follow Siaun and Leane's POV for a bit and they're really cool characters. The best moment EVER that made me feel the happiest I've ever felt is the moment when Nynaeve restores their ability to draw on Saidar, after they were stilled. I will never get over how wonderfully, wonderfully emotional that scene was.
Mat does not have 'a cool story'. He was fool enough to pick up the dagger from Shadar Logoth, despite Moirraine telling them to not touch anything. It's his own fault he was cursed by it. He is arrogant and sexist and the only use he finds for women is to serve as eye candy so that he can admire their 'magnificent' bosoms.

Aww, they just strike me as kind of abrasive during the course of the third book, that's all. That's how most Aes Sedai/ Trainees strike me though.
And, I just mean that Mat has an interesting story during the course of the third book. What with the whole gambling part, and the gray men. As far as I've seen of him being sexist or the like, is saying that he'd like to dance with a pretty girl. I wouldn't exactly punish him for that. It's not like he's going to any extreme by wanting to dance with them. (Of course, so far... this is from what I've read, which is not a great deal.) I mean... I haven't seen him think or do any worse than that, and as it were, dancing with someone isn't a bad thing to want. Of course, I didn't know about the dagger part... but, did he do it just because she is female? If not, you can't blame him, too much, aside from being stupid. I dunno, I haven't seen enough from him to consider him anything too bad.

You need to read more, then. And how is the gambling interesting? He is a sexist, arrogant fool who gambles. Thank you for reminding me of another stupid thing he does ^^.
Hah.
Where I am now, the story has left Elayne, Nynaeve and Aviendha for a bit and is now back to Perrin ... which annoys me because I prefer the female characters. Besides, Perrin always scratches his silly beard.

lol, Perrin is my favoite! True about the beard thing though. Hey I agree with you there, the further that Jordan goes into the series, the more that Rand changes... Yeah, so far I am up to Crown of Swords at the very beggining and right now it is a little hard to get back into the series after Lord of Chaos

Hm. Such controversy over Mat! And to a lesser extent, Perrin and Rand.
I find it humorous.
There isn't a spoiler tag or an equivalent here, is there?
