Finally, after all these years of waiting, it has been announced that a Fire Emblem game is being made for the DS. This is literally the best games-related news I have heard for over a year. Seven initial screens have been released. The game stars Marth, who you may remember from SSBM. Because of this, it seems that the game is a remake of one of the older, NES FE games, which was released in 1990; it's almost as old as me! Be amazed.

Eeee! I can't wait! Seriously, that is awesome news. Today is a good day for gaming news.
The screenshots look nice, but I prefer the GBA graphics. The battle sprites seem a bit lacking. I doubt they'll stay that way since these are initial, though.
I any case, I can't wait! I've been waiting for another FE game. With the Wii one coming out soon, it's gonna be awesome. ^^

Okay, I'm fed up with the lack of news regarding this game. It's three months since it was announced, and we've heard literally nothing since. So, the only thing we can do is theorise. Ideas, people?

It's been like that with too many games that I get interested in. Your best bet is to keep an eye on the DS Fanboy blog. Theories? Well, we know it's a remake. It'll probably go into more detail with the story, though and have more characters. There'll probably be some kind of new gameplay element added, too. Then again, those are kinda obvious things.

Yeah, I figure it'll just be a more modern version of the original, so using the gameplay elements of the GBA entries, that - in comparison to the original - are new. I just hope the characters are as lovable as they were in FE7.

I just hope there are things we haven't seen in any previous FE games included. Like, in FE: PoR and the Wii one which I forget the name of, there's those units which can change into animals, the Yaguz. I just want something interesting and new like that.

That sounds pretty cool. A few new types of units would be pretty interesting, too. I think in Sacred Stones, there were some units where you could choose which path, so to speak, that they would take, or rather evolve into, to give you a bit more choice about what type of unit they levelled up into. Really, though, the variants don't sound that different from each other, so something totally new would be worthwhile.

You could choose which class they leveled up into for all but the main story units, from what I remember.

Okay, thanks for that. I'm also thinking, it'd be cool if they could give us a bit more to do with the villages and houses. I know in Blazing Sword (and I assume in Sacred Stones too), you could visit villages and get given items, and visit houses for info and hints from the people that lived there. It would be cooler if there was a similar-ish system to what they have in Advance Wars, whereby, you visit a village or house (thus automatically) saving the people there, and you receive funds per day from each house you have 'saved'. Or something along those lines .

That sounds pretty interesting, Sophie. Yeah, something more should be done with the villages. Like, if you're positioned on one and an enemy attacks, you also have help from villagers, or something? I mean, it'd sound logical for that to happen.

Whoa, that's a cool idea. I just have this really funny image in my head of some kid leaning out a window and throwing pots and pans at a bandit, lol, and because it's an indirect attack, he wouldn't be able to retaliate unless he had a hand axe, lol.

I was thinking more along the lines of villagers holding pitchforks and things. xD Can you image a little kid throwing pots and pans at a general? xD

Hmm, decided to bump this since some new screens have been released. Seems like there are about 56 days until this comes out in Japan. I've not bene overly interested but that's because I've not played a FE game before. I'll probably play this one though because Marth is my favourite character.

If you like turn-based strategies with awesome fantasy stories, you'll probably like it, Kat.
Looking at a new screenshot on DS Fanboy, I saw a time on the left of the screenshot. I'm worried. Does this mean there'll be time limits added to the chapters? Or is this just for one chapter because of a specific story event? ... Or ... it could just be a timer, counting how long you've been playing the chapter, rather than counting down.

Damn yous! I just spent a while typing up a response to the thread about this on TOG, and then you two murder it with your teeny weeny comments . In fact, I'm going to post it here as well just to make myself feel more grandiose. So, I was drying up internally, due to the major drought of news on this game. I literally hadn't heard or seen anything of it since the first screens appeared on Jeux France back in October, which if we all think hard about it, is almost three quarters of a year ago. So, that sucked. But THEN, on my daily checking of DSFanboy today, I discovered two things: 1) Japan has a release date of the seventh of August for the game 2) Some magazine scans have cropped up on the intarwebz It's not much, and it's certainly not enough but it's all that's available at the moment, and at least it has convinced me that I haven't been dreaming all these months, and that a title for the DS actually is in development (I seriously was starting to wonder). Obviously, the screens aren't the best quality due to the scan, but I'm sure better quality versions of them will soon start circulating the webz. So, feelings? I'm still not sure what I think of the portrait art for the characters in the cutscenes. Obv a more CGI style has been affected here, but I think I preferred the brighter artwork of the GBA/GC games (I think the same was utilised for the Wii as well, but you guys will have to back me on that). As for your timing 'concerns', Richardos, I'm really doubting it's much to worry about. The timer only appeared on one of the screenshots, as far as I recall, so I'm figuring it'll just be for a couple of the chapters, like you get the ones where you have to defend a certain spot on the map for seven days or whatever. Except with this, perhaps it's instead a timer on how long you have to succeed in certain tasks. Okay, the only thing that would make me worried about it is if the game is in real time >__>. That would be a huge slap in the face.
