Gnedo stretched out his black wings behind him. He sat high up on one of the taller buildings of the city. He scratched his bearded chin and watched the humans below him going out about their short meaningless lives. Gnedo hated humans; they were, as he always said,
“Greedy sonofa bitches!”
Well, only when he was drunk he laughed to himself. Despite him being the one of the few remaining of his kind left, Gnedo always managed to look on the bright side of things. The clock tower at the center of the city had begun to ring. Nine, Ten, Eleven times. Eleven o’clock. He stood up, and dusted himself off. Time to get going he thought. He outstretched his wings again and launched himself into the night’s sullen sky. Gnedo loved to fly, especially above the city. The lights, the taste of the air, it had always made him feel good. He landed behind a tall office building, as to be conspicuous. He changed his appearance into that of a young business like gentlemen, and walked out from an alley. The streets of the city where as festering as ever; drunks, thieves, humans on the whole. He walked for another few minutes before reaching his destination. He pulled out a small piece of paper from his pocket and read it to himself.
“24 Harrington Street. This must be the joint.” He spoke softly to himself.
He attempted to open the door on the off chance that it was open. As he guessed, no luck. He placed his hand on the door knob and simply ripped it off, the door slowly swung open. He stepped into the room before him, surprising that nobody was guarding it. Perhaps they knew he was coming? Nah. Nobody ever knew he was coming, ever. He slowly examined the room at which way he would find what he was looking for. A door ahead of him looked as though it may lead to a garden of some sort. A spiral staircase was in the left most corner of the room and light could be seen shining down from it. The room itself was full of dusty cardboard boxes and smelt of humans and decay. Gnedo began to step towards the staircase when, from behind the door a man appeared. Clearly off guard, Gnedo took little time to silence him by puncturing his chest with one of his black claws, then quickly beheading him with his other. Sure it was a messy method, but Gnedo took a sort of pleasure in ripping humans apart. After disposing of what was remaining of the human, Gnedo, once again, began to approach and walk up the staircase. He could now just barely see the floor above him realizing that at least three men, armed men, where waiting for him. The nearest to Gnedo quickly unloaded four bullets of his revolver on Gnedo. He was quick to realize that they had little effect has Gnedo kept walking up the staircase with no fear in his face. The bullets had already fallen from his body onto the metal spiral staircase, making a clanging noise as they fell to the bottom of the staircase. Without hesitation the rest of the men also fired their guns at Gnedo, only to find that in mere seconds all of them would be in pieces. With the closest human to him being ripped in half from his pelvis to his cranium with his dreaded claws. Gnedo loved being covered in the red stained blood of humans, it tasted sweet too. By now the humans realized that they weren’t fighting something human and reacted differently. One screamed at the sight of the first human being ripped in two and attempted to run through the door behind him, only to be the next to die. Gnedo’s arms stretched to an enormous length and pulled the human towards him, kicking and screaming. At this point Gnedo was in full awing and laughing maniacally as he drew the human closer to him. Gnedo merely pulled both his arms until they where both lying on the floor next to the, now deceased, human. The other reloaded his gun and began to fire as Gnedo slowly walked toward him, still laughing. As soon as the human’s gun had stopped realizing bullets from its cartridge, Gnedo’s head grew into a huge black jackal’s head and chewed the human until he was all gone. Gnedo was now left with the door in front of him, he couldn’t stop smiling. His grin was so broad it was literally reaching both of his ears. He licked his blood stained fingers and wondered how he could live without humans at times such as this. He could sense that there was only one human left in the building, the others had escaped in a car outside he assumed. Well, whoever was brave enough to be the one to stay behind had to be either brave or damn confident? Gnedo spared no more time and flung the door before him. Ow. He found himself pulling out a large knife from his head, the knife actually hurt him. He wanted to know the human who would dare to hurt him. His name. A young, blond man stood before Gnedo, wearing a black tuxedo with a white tie and shirt. His eyes, he hadn’t seen such fury and determination in eyes for such a long time now. Gnedo’s smile widened to an even extremer proportion then before. This was going to be fun. The human held a katana in both hands held before him, in a style Gnedo had seen before. Could he be?
“Finally I have found the demon Gnedo Irkaki! I will avenge my family’s ancestors here and now!”
Gnedo immediately realized that he must have been a descendant of one of the many warrior clans that Gnedo ended all those centuries ago. He reminisced briefly before he came back into the situation at hand.
“What is your name son of man?” Gnedo asked him.
“My name is Jhnsi Imsato and tonight your reign of evil ends here!” He screamed as he flew over the small table in which the gangsters had been making deals over before they had so cowardly escaped earlier. Gnedo barely had time to wonder how this human had known he was coming. Had his sources betrayed him? Again? He sighed before swiftly dodging Jhnsi’s katana as it came down upon him. Gnedo recoiled himself and launched his left claw at the human only to find his own attack evaded and countered, resulting another painful injury that would take some time to heal. Gnedo hissed and from now on would make sure that it wouldn’t happen a third time. He had given the human too much breathing space, his time was up. Gnedo’s wings stretched out from his back and he launched himself and the human, grabbing onto him and flying high into, and through, the ceiling of the building. Gnedo began to clamp his claws onto the human crushing his bones and organs alike. Jhnsi began to scream and with, what seemed like, his last bit of determination managed to release his arm from Gnedo’s grip and slicing off his left claw. Gnedo screeched and released the human who managed to land on a small block of apartments below. Gnedo hovered above him, cradling his wounded arm. It would take at least a few hours for it to be back to full length. He wasn’t playing anymore; he was going to make sure this human was the last of his clan. He flew down upon the human, who was already ready for the next bout. He swung his blade at the sight of Gnedo, only to find him slicing air. This was the night he would return to his family. He coughed blood. Gnedo’s right claw had ripped right through his back and into his stomach. The demon had used an illusion. He fell to the floor. Gnedo smiled. That had been fun, despite the loss of his left arm for a while. He spread his wings and flew to his favorite building just north of the clock tower before. It had started to ring again .Ten, eleven, and twelve. It was time for him to rest. He made his way into the sealed penthouse of the building that he had claimed from the hotel manager a long time ago after giving him a particularly scary night visit. It fell onto his queen sized bed and let out a large sigh of relief. A tough night, but a fun one he supposed. He stood up and walked over to the small bar in the room and poured himself a large glass of bourbon on the rocks. That was the only thing he liked about humans, they had a good taste in liquids.
End.
